How to install your Somfy reloadable battery wand.

Welcome to the Somfy how-to video series. Learn some tricks and tips for installing your reloadable battery wand.

Each battery-powered window covering includes a reloadable battery wand, lithium batteries, mounting clips, screws, and securing bands. You also need to have a screwdriver and a tape measure.

Let's get started. To install the batteries, unscrew the cap and install the batteries as shown on the outside of the battery wand. Be sure you use only AA lithium batteries and do not combine old batteries with new ones.

The most common ways to mount the battery wand are either horizontally or vertically. If you want to mount the battery wand horizontally inside of the window frame next to the window covering, you must ensure that both the battery wand and the window covering will fit into the space you have. Measure the headrail and then measure the depth of the window return.

The window depth must be at least one inch larger than your headrail dimension to use this mounting option.

In this example, we have plenty of space for this installation.

For a vertical installation of the battery wand, install the securing bands onto the battery wand. Mark the wall location for the clips on the same side as the motor so that the clips will sit three inches from either edge of the wand. Secure with the included screws, being careful not to over-tighten.

If you want to mount your battery wand more than 10 inches from your motor, you will need to contact your window covering retailer to purchase a Somfy battery extension cable.

Now that your clips are installed, gently snap the battery wand into the mounting clips and plug the battery cable into the motor cable, making sure that the cables will not interfere with the operation of the shade. You can use tape to secure the cable but never use staples, as they could cut the wires and cause a short in the power.

Your shade is now powered and is ready to use! Thank you for watching and feel free to check out other videos in the Somfy how-to series.
