There are four main power options for Somfy motorized window coverings. We outline them below so you can determine which power option is the right choice for you:

Battery (WireFree™) Power

In this option, the motor is powered by extended-life lithium batteries. A 12V battery tube containing 8 AA lithium batteries is installed behind or above the headrail of your motorized window covering.

There are a few benefits of the battery-powered WireFree™ option. First, there are no wires you need to conceal. Perhaps most importantly, there’s no need for an electrician to wire your motorized shades, which minimizes installation time and cost.

Plug-in Power

In this option, the motor plugs directly into a standard electrical outlet. This might be the right power option for you if your window is located close to an outlet or power source. Of course, you can still use this option even if your window is further from an outlet, but in that case, you might need the help of an electrician.

The benefit of plug-in power for your motorized blinds or shades is that it allows for maintenance-free operation. No need to worry about changing batteries!

In-Wall Wired Power

In this option, the motor is typically wired into the home or building’s electrical system. This system of power could work for any home but does typically require the use of an electrician.

The major benefit, however, is the maintenance-free operation of your motorized product.

Solar Pack Power

In this option, Somfy’s WireFree™ Solar Pack harnesses renewable solar energy to power your motorized window coverings. It’s compatible with most Somfy-powered WireFree window coverings and offers an energy-efficient alternative for powering your motorized products.

The solar pack provides a greener solution by reducing the replacement and disposal of standard batteries. It’s also easy to install and doesn’t require the use of an electrician.
